The Medical Superintendent of the health center, Dr. Dashe Dasogot who gave an overview of the center noted that thirteen patients have successfully undergone full recovery from the abuse of all types of drug intake with positive testimonies from the parents of their clients. Mrs. Anna Ishaku for her daring commitment in keeping the center active to this point.
Earlier, Barr. Mrs. Anna Ishaku, initiator of the hope health center expressed that the center was shaped after a statewide sensitization campaign and workshop on the dangers of substance abuse by her foundation with key related bodies such as the NDLEA, NAFDAC, state ministries of youth and health together with some individuals who were either victims or relations of victims with success stories. The sensitization program revealed the enormity of the problem of substance abuse in the state and the lack of remedy or where to seek help for the problem. From statistics, Taraba stands as fifth position in the northeast with the case of substance abuse and as such a full-scale rehabilitation center was step up which was capital intensive. “As an NGO that is non-profit oriented, the demand for the center became unbearable, given the in-patients needs, salaries of staff and other necessary logistics,” she said.
Mrs. Ishaku stated that the center will operate only as a drop-in center where all patients will be outpatients with the activities of treatment of minor physical injuries sustained by clients, group therapy sessions where guest speakers will be invited to engage on career talks and other topics of interest, cinema and film show of related drug abuse cases, in and outdoor games with sporting events and skills acquisition training.
