Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has urged gubernortorial aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State to seek ways to present a consensus candidate for the next election.
The Governor who is the chairman of the party’s congress committee set up by the national secretariat of the party expressed the need to reduce the number of aspirants for the party’s governorship ticket from eleven to two or three.
Governor Ishaku who was in Osogbo, Osun State to supervise the conduct of the party’s state congress.
noted that eleven persons aspiring for that single position is unwieldy and could lead to a rancorour and even bitter contest that may affect unity of purpose among members.
Ishaku said PDP has now fully recovered from the crisis it experienced in the past and was ready to recapture its premier position in the politics of Nigeria.
He commended leaders of the party in the state for the unity currently prevailing in the party and advised them to work hard to win the next elections, especially the governor’s position.
The Governor said his goal of repositioning the party to capture the choice elective positions in the state during the next election would elude them if the stakeholders fail to form a common front against the other political parties
