DDI Interschool Basketball Competition Ends in Jalingo.

Governor Ishaku inter-Secondary Schools Basketball competition organized by the Ministry of Education in honor of the rescue captain achievements ended yesterday at the Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo. The competition was for both male and female categories of all the secondary schools within Jalingo metropolis.

Speaking at the event, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku ably represented by the Honorable Commissioner of Education, Mr. Johanes Jigem said the competition was organized in order to complement Governor Ishaku’s achievements in the education sector and to also keep the students fitness for better health.

He further encouraged the students to take their studies serious for a better tomorrow as this will go a long way in reshaping their future. Hon. Jigem advised the students not to involve themselves in any form of social vices like drug abuse, thuggery, and cultism because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

The Commissioner said the rescue mission is on point in the education sector especially with the performance of the State in WAEC since 2015 when they came into power, he appreciated the Governor for the support given to the Education in the State.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Taraba State Basket Ball Association, Mr. Wesleyan Geoffrey Tafida appealed to the students to take what they are doing now seriously because it may take them to a better place in future adding that he started just like this and he represented Taraba at national level and also Nigeria at international competition.

He applauded Governor Ishaku for setting up such a competition and also giving the students an opportunity to showcase their talents in basketball. He hoped the Governor maintains the tempo in his Rescue achievements adding that as the 2019 election draws near, DDI will continue the good works he is doing.

He finally advised the students to shun drug abuse and alcohol that it will only destroy their future. The participating schools were F.G.G.C Jalingo, G.D.S.S Nya, G.S.S.S Jalingo, and Best Centre among others.

The match ended with G.D.S.S Nya having 20 points against F.G.G.C with 13 points in female category and G.S.S.S won with 33 points to 26 points against G.D.S.S Nya for male category.

At the end, certificates of participation and cash prizes was presented to the first, second and the third position.
