“The allegation by the army that the Taraba State Government was inciting the people against soldiers involved in Operation Ayem Akpatuma is a blatant lie aimed at covering the woeful failure that the operation turned out to be.”
This statement was made by Bala Dan Abu Special Adviser Media to the Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku yesterday in his office at Government House, Jalingo.
Dan Abu said that the army should be honest enough to tell Nigerians that it failed in this very important national assignment.
According to him, it is unfortunate that the killings became more frequent, and had degenerated into an uncontrollable carnage while the operation lasted.
“The military invaded the private homes of the indigenes, collected their cutlasses and kitchen knives and in some cases, their money but looked the other way while the herdsmen freely used their AK-47 guns to kill and maim innocent people.”
The SA to the Governor also stated that it is not surprising that the army is making this allegation at this time. The National Assembly has just added its very weighty voice in the condemnation of the military for its dubious role in the killings by herdsmen in Taraba and some other states in the country and even went a step further to demand the sack of the service chiefs as such certainly, the army is under pressure.
