Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku received reports on the fact findings and recommendations of the threat of Hippos in Ibi Local Government Area at a workshop held yesterday at Gymnastic Hall Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo. The reports were on the threat posed by the Hippos on the farming Communities around Lake Ibi and Nwanu Lake which led the Governor to seek for a collaboration with the international organization in order to profer recommendations on the conservation of the Animals for Tourism development.
In his Speech, Governor Ishaku applauded the Country representative of the F.A.O Mr. Suffyan Koroma for giving attention to his complaint of the Hippos disturbing people in Ibi Local Government Area and also appreciated Mr. Mike Lagrange for coming all the way from Zimbabwe to Taraba State. The Governor said he is delighted for the comprehensive reports submitted and sees a very good job been done professionally by the experts and assured them that he will set up a small committee to review the reports for the immediate action of his Rescue Government. The Governor also said his Government is ready to partner with F.A.O in more areas that will showcase Taraba State.
Declaring the workshop open, the Hon. Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Atoshuma Gani welcomed the Executive Governor Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku and the entire participants to the workshop. He also thanked the Governor specifically for his relentless effort in finding the lasting solution to the challenges.
The report was presented by the Country representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations (FAO) Mr. Suffyan Koroma. The report presented commended the Governor for his leadership and giant strides recorded in several sectors in the State specifically for his commitment to protecting the Community farmers in the State and his foresightedness to develop the Agriculture and Tourism potential of the State. He said F.A.O will continue to provide technical support and other relevant assistance to contribute to the economic and socio-cultural development of Taraba State.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Koroma said it is no doubt that Taraba State is well laid down with the right agricultural and tourism potential which if developed as desired by the Governor will provide empowerment and income for the people of the State.
The representative of the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Culture and tourism, Barr. James Audu who is the legal adviser to the State tourism board on behalf of the Commissioner and the Ministry acknowledged the Governor, the F.A.O, Chairperson of the National Conservator and all the distinguished participants for their contribution for the success of the program.
In attendance was the Deputy Governor Engr. Haruna Manu, S.S.G Mr. Anthony Jellason, Head of Service, Hon. Commissioners, and State Assembly Members, SA’s and SSA’s and other top Government functionaries.
