The former governor of Taraba state, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, is dead. He died in Florida USA today, says the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Gov. Darius Ishaku, Hassan Mijinyawa.
Pharmacist Danbaba Suntai was governor of Taraba state from 2007 to 2011 and was sworn in for a second term on May 29, 2011. But shortly into his second term in October 2012, he was involved in a fatal air crash in Yola where he narrowly escaped death. The head injuries he sustained however incapacitated him despite his several medical trips overseas to seek treatment.
The debacle also led to leadership tussle in the State which saw Garba Umar(UTC), his deputy becoming the acting governor in November 2013. But in November 2014, about a year after, a supreme court judgment reinstated Sani Danladi, Suntai’s one-time deputy, who was said to have been removed wrongfully. Incidentally, Sani Danladi, who became a senator in 2015 was last week removed by a supreme court judgment which gave the seat back to Shuaibu Lau.
Meanwhile, the cause of Suntai’s death could not be immediately ascertained but it may not be unconnected to his condition since the accident in 2012 which rendered him incapacitated and incommunicado.
