2017 International Children’s Day Celebration; Gov. Ishaku Harps on Establishment of Family Court

The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku in his resolve to protect all children from violence, said his administration has launched a strategic plan to end violence against children.

As a demonstration of the resolve, he said his Government has commenced the process of establishing a Family Court.

Governor Ishaku made this disclosure today during the International Children’s Day Celebration at the Trade Fair Complex Jalingo.

He Stated “that this year’s theme,” Child Protection and the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs: Issues and opportunities” , is consistent with the Rescue Mission of this administration in matters affecting the security, welfare, wellbeing, development and advancement of children in Taraba.”

The Governor  who was represented by his wife, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku further disclosed that, “through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, the State has formulated and implemented series of policies and programmes for safeguarding and promoting the interest of children with appreciable results.”

He explained that part of the provisions of the Child Right Law,CRL, is the establishment of a family Court to serve as an instrument for prompt arrest, detention and prosecution of offenders who engage in all forms of child abuse, adding that the process for establishing the Court is in progress.

The Governor emphasized that “the State Government has also facilitated the take off of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the State Social Investment Programme in collaboration with the Federal Government.

A total of 358000 pupils have so far been captured in Primary Schools across all the 16 Local Government Areas and two Special Development Areas of the State.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mrs. Lois Emmanuel said the theme is intended to address all forms of child abuse in the country. Hence the State has adopted it in earnest.

Highlights of the event was a colorful parade by some schools, presentation of prizes to most outstanding schools in the parade and offering of special prayers for the children.
