TY Danjuma Gives Condition For Acquisition of Kwararafa University

A former Chief of Army staff and the Abonta of Kwararafa Kingdom, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma has stated that he wants to know the terms for acquiring the Kwararafa University Wukari in order not to flout the laws establishing the institution.

The former Defense Minister was responding to the request by the management of the university to acquire the institution, during the convocation ceremony of the university held in Wukari Saturday.

The university is owned by the Kwararafa Investment Company and is being quoted in the stock exchange with as little as N5000 one can acquire shares and be a part owner of the University.

During the ceremony, the retired general and world class entrepreneur responded that “I would do what is reasonable after I find out that you have the legal rights to hand over the university to me”.

In his speech during the occasion, the governor of Taraba state, Darius Dickson Ishaku, said that the university has started transforming Wukari town and that education moulds the character and the human being which is an Invaluable gift that can be bequeathed to anyone.

In his speech, the Chairman Governing Council of the University, Prof. Jerry Gana, extolled the virtues of Prof Julius Okojie, an honorary doctorate recipient of the University, for midwiving community university in Nigeria which made the Kwararafa University the only community university in the country. He appealed to sons and daughters of Kwararafa to support the university. He also praised Governor Ishaku for always being there for the university whenever the situation arose and urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the university during their service year.

While delivering his speech during the occasion, Prof. Julius Okojie, who was conferred with Doctor of Science (Honoris causa) acknowledged the fact that in ancient times, universities were centres of excellence but that in recent times, the ability to conduct meaningful research that would impact on the people was lacking.  He traced the problem of the university to funding and appealed to the Kwararafa nation to give support to the university.

In his remarks, the vice-chancellor of the University, Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu,  noted that Governor Ishaku had been supporting the institution before he became governor and thanked him for the present support.

Other recipients of honorary doctorate degrees include the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Saad II, (Doctor of Science, honoris causa) and Daisy Danjuma (Doctor of Letters, honoris causa).

Meanwhile, a total of graduated from the institution with Ruth Angyu of the Economic Department becoming the best graduating student with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.7.
