The wife of Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku yesterday received an award for her sacrifice of love to the Ndola Nation as well as conferred with the title ‘Naa Ndola’, meaning, ‘Mother of Ndola’.
The award which was given in recognition for her selfless service and contribution towards bringing the Ndola nation to limelight, was held at the village square of Dori village, Njikun Zone, NGADA Special Development Area.
Speaking during the epoch making event, the Governor’s wife who described the day as a great one for her, stated that, the honour accorded her was a supreme one which she appreciates.
While recalling how the journey all started with visit of Rev. Joseph Nagombe, Mrs. Beatrice Kitchener and others to her office in April 2015, Barr. Anna Ishaku explained that she was carried away by the doggedness, passion and sincerity of the team, which gave birth to her first visit to the area after watching a documentary.
She said her resolve to help the Ndola people was further strengthened by the presence of Rev. Arthur Helwig from USA, who was living among them, and whom she would prefer more honour goes to him.
She was optimistic that with the Special Development Area in place, other benefits like Roads, Hospitals, Schools and others will soon get to the area, as she prayed God to help the Governor fulfil all the promises he has made to them.
In her speech, the Chairperson of the occasion, wife of the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Hajiya Zainab Haruna Manu who expressed delight for being part of the event, commended Her Excellency’s passion and commitment in salvaging the Ndola people from neglect in this 21st century, stressing that the title conferment and Award was a well deserved one.
She further appreciated the Governor and the House of Assembly for speeding up the process of creating the NGADA SDA , adding that she has no doubt in her mind that this is the beginning of good things to come from the Government.
Speaking earlier, the Coordinator NGADA SDA, Rev. Joseph Titus Nagombe who gave a brief history of the Celebrant, NGADA SDA and the purpose for the Award, pointed out that all efforts at bringing the Ndola nation to limelight yielded no result until the encounter with the wife of the Governor in April 2015.
He enumerated some of her Excellency’s achievements in the Area to include; employment of 30 Vigilantes, provision of 10 Grinding Machines and Motorcycles each, training of 120 Traditional Birth Attendants, sponsorship of 14 youths in School of Nursing and Midwifery and College of Health Technology.
Others are; registration of 10 Cooperatives with Bank of Industry, Skills Acquisition Training for 50 youths, in addition to her efforts in the creation of NGADA SDA.
He further pointed out the impact of the Governor’s Rescue Mission since the Government took over the Area to include the following; Creation of NGADA SDA, managing the Crisis that engulfed the area in April 2016, completion of the boundary tracing and demarcation of the area, renovation of a temporary Secretariat in TSBS Jalingo, approval of a substantive subvention for NGADA quarterly and request for memo on Road construction to NGADA from Kungana.
He further revealed that the building of a permanent Secretariat is ongoing in Sunkuru the headquarters of NGADA and on completion will be named ‘Anna Darius NGADA Special Development Area Secretariat’.
Highlights of the event include, song presentations and dance, presentation of Certificates of Recognition to Rev.Arthur Helwig, Staff of Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, and many others who had contributed in various ways to the success story of NGADA.
The occasion was attended by wives of the Head of Service and SSG , Commissioners and wives of Commissioners, Special Advisers and Assistants, Spiritual leaders amongst other top Government functionaries.
