Wife of Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku has met with stakeholders from the Southern Senatorial Zone to strategise on ways to empower interested groups in the area through Skills training in order to curb idleness and make them self reliant.
Barr. Anna Ishaku who was received by a large crowd including orphaned school children amidst jubilation and gratitude expressed delight at the welcome accorded her by the people.
Addressing the gathering later at the Ichondi Recreation Centre Wukari, the wife of the Governor explained that the mandate of her NGO, the Hope Afresh Foundation is to render assistance to those who need it.
She pointed out that the NGO strives on partnership and derives joy collaborating with groups and good spirited individuals to touch the lives of the less privileged positively.
Barr. Anna Ishaku further charged the stakeholders to submit names of the less privileged who truly need assistance as well as those who are interested, urging that those who will be trained should in turn train others, as she called on stakeholders to join hands and assist the needy amongst them.
Speaking earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Lois Emmanuel welcomed Her Excellency to the unique occasion, describing her as a mother to orphans and widows as well as a woman of peace who had come to give hope to the hopeless and put smiles on the faces of the less privileged.
She therefore urged the participants to make maximum use of the opportunity to better their lot, while charging the stakeholders to be transparent in forwarding names of trainees.
The Project Manager Hope Afresh Foundation, Taraba, Mrs. Helen Douglas also in reviewing activities of the Foundation, extensively explained the reason for the visit stressing that the Northern Zone had benefitted from a similar exercise, while urging the stakeholders to be fair in submission of names so that only those it is meant for will benefit.
The Caretaker Chairman, Wukari Local Government Area, Mr. Adi Daniel who spoke on behalf of the Chairmen from the Zone and their wives commended the Governor’s wife for such a laudable programme, and pledged their total support to the programme, pointing out that what is happening in the zone is for the good of the people.
Earlier on arrival, Her Excellency and her entourage paid homage to the Aku Uka, His Royal Highness, Shekarau Angyu Masaibi at his palace to intimate him of the reason for the visit as well as to receive fatherly advice and blessings.
In his remark, the Aku Uka expressed delight over the development pointing out that, women are sympathetic, industrious and good home managers and will indeed deliver the good intended by the programme if empowered in such a way.
He also commended the Governor for the peace experienced in the State during his regime and called on the people to support the Government in its quest to develop the State.
Her Excellency also paid homage to the wives of the Aku Uka as well as widows and dependants of the royal household.
