Since the creation of Taraba State on August 27, 1991 by the then Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida retired, successive administrations have come and gone with their varying and peculiar styles of leadership
The journey which started about 25 years ago was occasioned by successes and failures, however, the successes outweigh the failures going by how the State looks at present.
Though, to some Jalingo which is the Taraba State capital ought to have been more than what it is today, taking into consideration some level of achievements recorded by some States that were created within the same period.
Similarly each administration came with the office of Her Excellency, with particular focus on a subject matter, for instance, during the time of Priscilla Jolly Nyame, it was called ‘Women and Youths Foundation’, while the wife of former Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, Hauwa Danbaba Suntai christened her pet project, the ‘In-School Adolescents Reproductive, Health and HIV Prevention’, with particular emphasis on the prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS among girls of school age. Recently, Her Excellency, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku came on board with the ‘Hope Afresh Foundation, Taraba’.
Each of these Pet Projects have their distinct vision and mission, targeted at a particular set of people with the sole objective of giving succour and sense of belonging to the less privileged in the society.
The launching of Hope Afresh Foundation, Taraba, on 7th July, 2016 gave birth to renewed hope for the people of the with no dichotomy, with a broader perspective that is all encompassing irrespective of age or gender as attested to by numbers of people that have benefited across the the 16 Local Government Areas of the State.
To this end, women and youths have been empowered through the Hope Afresh Foundation of Her Excellency, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku and today many youths and women in the State are self-reliant with some becoming employers of labour in their respective domain.
The Foundation recently added another feather to its cap by taking the bull by its horn and setting a record that will remain indelible in the history of Taraba State and indeed the country by actually rescuing from the dungeon, the rejected and forgotten people of Ndola of Gola Development Association NGADA, who had been part of Nigeria since 1961 after the plebiscite, but remained a ghost of itself without a single Government presence.
Today, through the effort of Barr. Anna Ishaku and the instrumentality of her pet project, Hope Afresh foundation in conjunction with the Rescue Mission, captained by the Rescue Captain, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku have collectively salvaged the people.
Accordingly, the 21st of September, 2016, marked another new beginning in the lives of people of Ndola of Gola Development Area. It was the day His Excellency, Darius Ishaku assented to the creation Order 2016 of NGADA, which was deliberated upon by the members of the Taraba State House of Assembly and passed into law thereby proclaiming the area as NGADA Development Area.
Apart from assenting to the creation Order 2016, the attention of the people of the new Development Area was also drawn to the fact that they need to be of help to one another so as to move their area forward with a challenge to see their past neglect as an opportunity to work as team so that the area will witness speedy development.
Historically, the Ndola people have lived in the area that is today called the NGADA Development Area for about 1000 years after the fall of the Bantu kingdom and over 90 percent of the people are the Ndola speaking tribe that were initially part of the defunct United hills which later became the United Nations Trust Territory of the British Northern Cameroon.
Though, during the era of partitioning in 1922, the area was part of the league of Nations of the British Cameroon, then following the partitioning of German Cameroon Territory between the French and British who jointly defeated Germany in 1916, the plebiscite was a decision taken by the United Nations in order that the area will belong to particular Colonial masters.
As a mark of appreciation, the spokesperson of the the Ndola people, Rev. Joseph Nagombe stated thus, “Brethren, the creatures of God can never be left in isolation in terms of Social life, as God will always provide a liberator, a Saviour and a man with a heart, determined to salvage situation. The purpose of God for the people of NGADA was to fulfil his words through a servant after his heart like Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku to liberate his people and it has happened and come through today. Your Excellency, thank you,” he appreciated.
The people of NGADA Development Area are not only viable members of Taraba State but will also contribute significantly towards increasing the numbers of eligible voters of the State in the registers of both Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission, TSIEC.
Similarly, with the creation of NGADA Development Area, it will also jump start the process of politicking where people will vote and also be voted for taking into cognisance the estimated numbers of eligible voters that is put at about 20,000.
Another area that will equally receive a boost is the Agricultural Sub – sector, because the area is a fertile ground for the cultivation of crops such as palm trees which has multiple uses, cocoa, coffee, plantain and varieties of grain and cereals among others.
The Government on its part will sensitise the people on the importance of peaceful coexistence and to also create an enabling environment for Government to come in and do the needful so that the people will also start enjoying the dividends of democracy with particular emphasis on Education, Health and provision of Social amenities.
