Taraba State House of Assembly Commends NGOs’ Efforts at Fighting Hepatitis.

    

The Taraba State House of Assembly has commended the efforts and goodwill of Chargo-Care Trust and other International NGOs, in the fight against Hepatitis.

The Non-Govermental Organisation which is Community-driven and patient-focused as well as various concerned bodies have called for a comprehensive approach to the prevention and control of Viral Hepatitis which has made it possible for 28th July of every year to be marked as the World Health Hepatitis Day.

Describing the disease as a global challenge, the Chairman, Committee on Health Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. A.A Jugulde stated that, in Taraba State alone, it has been statistically shown that a very high prevalence and burden of Viral Hepatitis has become a source of major concern.

According to him, majority of Tarabans living with this disease are either unaware of it or rather ignorant of its effect in their lives and the affected people around them, adding that the existence of the World Health Assembly, WHA, supplemented by the Chargo-Care Trust is a step towards the right direction and a way out of the mess.

With this immense effort, Tarabans will be exposed to a better living environment which can enhance growth and development in the State.

The day which held in Jalingo, with the theme ” Match Towards the Elimination of Hepatitis” started as a rally with members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Jalingo anchoring the movement from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Secretariat down to the Taraba State University, TSU, where an awareness campaign was created to the general public.
