Trees are important part of every community as streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are being lined with trees that are pleasing to the environment.
They increase quality of life by bringing natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban settings as well as control climate by moderating the effects of the sun, rain and windstorm.
Way from the fact that trees are beautiful and majestic, the fallen leaves make excellent compost that enriches the soil.
Speaking on the importance of trees, the Head of Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture Jalingo, Dr. Richard Adeola said the benefits of trees are enormous, adding that people should imbibe the habit of planting trees as apart from the economic benefits of trees, they also provide natural harmony for the environment.
The Executive Director of Rural Integrated Development Initiative, Mohammed Tanko called for mass mobilization and enlightenment for trees planting, saying trees remain the only barrier against different natural disasters, while calling on Government at all levels to organise educational campaigns on tree planting.
