The wife of Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku has flagged off a Skill Acquisition Training Programme in Cosmetology, Tailoring, Mechanics and Welding in Lau Local Government Area of the State in continuation of her empowerment programme.
Speaking during the flag-off at Abbare, the representative of the Governor’s wife, who is also her Press Secretary, Mrs Elizabeth Usen Smith stated that her Excellency’s passion for the welfare of the people of the State has driven her to put the programme in place to reduce idleness and over dependence on family and the Government.
While urging the beneficiaries to be committed to the training, Mrs Smith said her Excellency has decided to impact the people with knowledge instead of given them money, because money will finish but the knowledge they will acquire will endure and make them useful to themselves, family and society in general.
She added that her Excellency has more programmes in the pipeline for them if they can prove themselves serious.
Mrs Smith also called on the trainers to be dedicated to their assignment and impact the required skills into the participants in a way that they can in turn impact on others, soliciting the support of the community leaders for the initiative of the Governor’s wife at uplifting the standard of livelihood of the people.
In his speech, the Chairman Lau Local Government Area, Hon. Nicholas Waniyafiwani, applauded the efforts of the Governor’s wife in complimenting her husband’s Rescue Mission towards rescuing Women and Youths from dependence on Government to self-dependence.
He also lauded the efforts of the Governor for providing power supply to rural areas of which Kunini is also a beneficiary, adding that, it has aided the community to engage in various businesses due to the constant power supply.
While urging the Youths to participate fully in the training, the Chairman promised to give priority to Youths empowerment in his administration.
In her remarks, the wife of the Chairman, Mrs Peace Nicholas commended her Excellency’s show of love for the less privileged especially at the grassroots through engagement of Women and Youths in various skills acquisition training.
She further appreciated the Governor for his efforts at job creation as being experienced in the training programme and called on the youths to avail themselves of the training in order to be self- employed.
In their various remarks, the Abbare Community Leader, Jauro Zachariah Nyani and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Hon Philip Kundila appreciated the Governor and his wife for their insight at curbing poverty in the land as well as urged the trainees to be committed to the goodwill of the Governor’s wife stressing that it is pathetic to train people and have them respond with ingratitude.
On arrival, the Governor’s wife paid homage to the Community Leader to intimate him on the aim of the visit as well as receive fatherly blessings and support for the success of the programme.
She was also shown round the various training centres in Abbare and Kunini in the company of the Chairman,the Chairman’s wife, SSA to the Governor, Councillors and other dignitaries.
