In a renewed bid to resettle Internally Displaced Persons in the State, the wife of the Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Ishaku through her Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, today commenced free Skills Acquisition Training program for IDPs camping in Mutum- Biyu, the Local Government Headquarters of Gassol.
Speaking at the flagging off, the Protocol Officer to Her Excellency, Ms. Mairo Tafida disclosed that the training was a timely intervention of the Governor’s wife to enable Internally Displaced Persons to acquire basic skills needed for survival.
In the same vein, the Program Manager of the hope Afresh Foundation, Mrs. Helen Douglas stated that Her Excellency is determined to do all within her power to equip all citizens to enable them to put food on their tables for a lifetime.
She disclosed that the program includes:
- Training in cosmetology,
- Tailoring and
- Welding technology.
She advised trainees to give quality time and attention to training so they can gain mastery of the various skills to be self-reliant in no time.
According to her, training in cosmetology would be for three days to learn the production of lotions, soaps, petroleum jelly, insecticides and air freshener. Trainees for welding technology and tailoring would be attached with trainers for six months apprenticeship.
Teachers were charged with commitment to qualitative teaching while trainees were cautioned to be dedicated in seizing the opportunity to improve their standard of living.
The Coordinator of the IDP camp, Mr. Innocent Ityoutsa expressed appreciation to the Governor’s wife stating that they never thought that this measure of assistance would be brought to them. He assured Her Excellency that beneficiaries had been given due orientation and would make judicious use of the opportunity.
Beneficiaries who spoke to Taravoices disclosed that they were overjoyed to have this golden opportunity. They expressed appreciation to Her Excellency for remembering them and prayed that the administration continues to make progress so they can keep reaping the dividends of democracy.
