The Taraba State Police Commissioner, Shaba Alkali says the Command is set to tackle the current security challenges associated with local communities and herdsmen in the state.
The Commissioner who disclosed this to taravoices correspondent yesterday in his office at the state headquarters said, the command recently set up a Special Joint Operations of Special Anti Robbery Squad in collaboration with the members of the affected Communities and Vigilante groups in order to crack down on the proliferation of firearms, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other associated forms of criminality.
Shaba Alkali said as a result of the operations embarked upon by the command, a lot of successes have been recorded whereby several firearms and ammunitions have been recovered as well as suspected criminals arrested.
The Police Commissioner confirmed that the combined team of SARS and Vigilante members also raided criminal hideouts in Bali and Takum local government areas and arrested eight suspects, recovered three AK 47 rifles, two single barrel guns, one locally made double barrel pistol, one locally made pistol, eleven rounds of 7.62mm of live ammunitions and two AK 47 magazines with seventeen rounds of live ammunitions.
He maintained that the police will not take it lightly in dealing with any person found wanting of disturbing the peaceful co-existence of Tarabans, stressing that as soon as investigations are concluded all suspects will be charged to court.
